I wonder if you would kindly add a reciprocal link to my new Gosport and Lee on Solent website which is aimed at promoting local traders and features recommendations from happy customers?

Subject: Book of memories

Message Received 16 February 2008

Is it too late to fill in the memories form on your website?

Vision4Lee Reply 16 Feb 08

Hello, You have contacted is just in time, as we have just released the interviews to the printers. If you complete your memories on line then we can include them in the Memories of Lee Book.

Subject: moving to Lee

Message Received 2 Feb 08:

Hello there

I was looking for information. i visited Lee on many occasions in the past as child and as an adult.

I was thinking of moving to Lee-on-the solent as i had happy memories. but i have been informed that over the past few years it has lost a lot of its sparkle and there is a high number of Asylum seekers living there.

could you confirm for me if this is right or maybe tel me if its still a quiet place to live or has it gone into decline for other reasons.

Thank you for your help

Vision4Lee Reply 4 Feb 08

Thank you for your question posted on the Vision4Lee Website.

Your source of information regarding Asylum seekers is totally incorrect. A couple of years ago the Government did announce plans to use the old HMS Daedalus site as an Asylum Center for up to 400 young men, but Lee Residents strongly opposed this and the Government plans were cancelled.

Since then the Airfield area of the Daedalus site has been sold by the MoD to The Department of Transport for use by the MCGA/HM Coastguard with the remainder of the site going to the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).

Lee-on-the-Solent has grown in numbers of houses over the past 4 years and has a population of around 9 thousand. It is very much the same as you remember it and has a great Community spirit, that is borne out by the fact that on Saturday the 23 August this year we have Lee Festival 2008 organised by the Lee Business Association and Lee-on-the-Solent Residents Association.

Subject: Multi-purpose Hydro pool

9 December 2007

Message:

I would like to propose that a Hydro pool be incorporated in the proposed leisure centre.
1. Providing hoists and couchs and suitable changing rooms
2. disabled. post op, stroke victims and many more would benefit.
3. Providing jobs for physios and assistants.

I feel that there is a desperate need in this area for this facility

Vision4Lee Reply  24 December 2007

My apologies for the delay in reply.

Thank you for your email that I have forwarded onto the SEEDA Team at Daedalus for inclusion in their considerations for the Daedalus Master Plan that is due to be available around March 2008.

Subject: dissertation

18 October 2007

Message: Hi there, i am a student of the university of wales swansea and my dissertation is based on Lee on solent and more specifically the new building of housing and pressure which this in turn places on Lee in terms of transport, amenities, change of culture and in an economic sense. I would be extremely grateful if you would be willing to forward me any information and/or statistics which you feel would be beneficial and also your opinion on the increased housing demands and whether you feel it is positive for the area. I t would be really interesting o know your thoughts as i have interviewed as few locals. I used to live here for a good 10 years in cambridge road and loved lee. Thank you very much for your time.

Vision4Lee Reply 27 October 2007

I am the Secretary of Vision4Lee. This is in response to your question placed on the V4L website. I have just returned from holiday, hence the delay in reply but will investigate and provide you with some information in the near future. Meanwhile have you looked at the SEEDA Daedalus Website http://www.daedalus-seeda.co.uk/site/seeda/home and the links to SEEDA on our website http://www.vision4lee.co.uk/pages/seeda_daedalus_news.html

Subject: Seafront Tram

30 September 2007

Message I wonder whether a modern tram with classic tram styling would be a positive addition along the sea front. Perhaps connected with gosport. Or even an "historic bus" route. Probably too expensive but just a thought.

Vision4Lee Reply 4 October 2007

Thank you for your comments regarding the Seafront Tram. I have passed them onto the SEEDA Team at Daedalus so that they can be included in the Transport Section of the Daedalus public consultation.

Subject: Can I help?

21 May 2007

Message:

Hello I am 33 years old and moved to Skipper Way with my wife and step son last year. We are regulars at St Faith's Church and love the community spirit in Lee, I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

I was a primary school teacher but am not working at the moment. Can I help in any way? Have laptop so can carry out any admin tasks/research or whatever you need.

Kind regards

Vision4Lee Reply 21 May 2007

Hello and thank you for making contact with Vision4Lee. My name is Ray Harding and I am the Secretary of the Steering Group. I live close to Skipper Way.
The V4L Steering Group meeting on a monthly basis at the Committee Room in Lee Community Centre. Meetings start at 7.p.m and I suggest that you come along to the next meeting on the 6 June and meet the group and we can take it from their. The position at present is that we have completed all of the data gathering and are about to release the Final Report and Way Ahead key projects that we wish to seek funding for and are also about to set up a Lee Town Partnership. The key funding projects will require business cases and bids prepared (Lottery, Award for All and any other funding steams) so any help that you can provide in this area will be wonderful.

Hope that I have wetted your appetite a little and look forward to meeting you on the 6 June.

Kind regards,

Ray Harding
Vision4Lee Secretary

Subject: Suggestion to improve Lee

Message 13 June 2007

Message:
For many years Lee-on-the-Solent had a pier, and because of this people would flock to the area to be by the sea and enjoy a typical seaside resort. Unfortunately any attractions in Lee are now long gone and although people still come in the summer to lay on the weed infested beach, there is nothing else of interest for potential holiday makers. We need to build a new pier with many attractions and bring Lee-on-the-Solent back to life. Thanks to a certain building firm, Lee has become a place to spend your last years before being dispatched, we need to bring new young life back here and not sit by and watch the area fade to nothing.

Vision4Lee Reply 29 June 2007

Firstly my apologies for the delayed reply but I have been on holiday for the past two weeks.

Thank you for your comments regarding improvements for Lee. The topic that you have raised was highlighted during the Public consultation process and was taken into account in the analysis of Lee's Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis. The key projects have been identified and are in the process of being prioritised. Many of the key projects are longer term and will be included in the SEEDA Master plan for the Daedalus site and Lee.

Piers were a feature of many seaside towns visitor areas in the past, but today's requirements tend to center on Marina's and that is what has been identified as a possible long term project for the future e.g. 5 - 10 years.

Hope that this is of help.

KInd Regards,

Ray Harding
Secretary V4L

Subject: How can our client help you?

Message 5 July 2007

Hello we represent Budgens and one of their independent retailers owns your local store.

We are looking at ways that he and his store can help and work with the Lee on Solent community - I came across this website and would love the opportunity to have a chat to see if we can put forward any projects that we can consider so that we can come on board.

My contact details have been provided and I hope to speak to someone soon, with best wishes

Vison4Lee Reply 6 July 2007

Many thanks for getting in touch via the Vision4Lee website.

I am the support officer from Hampshire County Council working with the group, and have been asked by Ray to make the initial contact and explain a little about us. The group is made up of local Lee residents, who have recently completed a report of findings following 18 months of research and public consultation. They have several community projects they are hoping to take forward, and hopefully will be able to secure funding to improve identified gaps in service provision to make Lee a better place to live, work & visit.

We would love to welcome Bugdens on board the V4Lee group, and probably the best thing would probably be for a member of the group to pop round and meet with you to discuss things informally. Our Chair is Guy Hudspith, and the Secretary of the group is Ray Harding. The group has a Steering Group meeting every month at Lee Community Centre, but also meet on an ad hoc basis when the need arises. The group recently were finalists in the South East Market Town Awards, for their Narrated Walks, which was a great achievement for them.

We would be delighted to look into any possibilities of working with you on a community project, and look forward to hearing from you in due course about an initial face to face meeting to chat with one of the group.

Best wishes, and thanks again for getting in touch.

Subject: Seafront 'garden'

9 July 2007

Message:
One of the suggestions on the list of what people want is 'Elegant Seafront walk'. I have a suggestion - make more of the natural environment by growing sea salt resistant plants on the grass slopes and shingle. If you have ever been to Chesil Beach in Dorset you will be able to picture what I mean. Thrift grows naturally there in the shingle and is a beautiful sight in June. Some thrift already grows on the grass slopes near some of the shelters but more could be made of this. Planting some in the shingle an letting it naturalise would in years to come make this into a real attraction. The spring bulbs on the grass parallel to the road where fantastic this March and April but the whole area is 'dead' of colour once the bulbs have finished. Another flower which could naturalise is the sea aster, some of which grows well along the pavement edge outside of the houses east of Beach Road. Planting some of that on the slopes and in the shingle would add blue to the pink Thrift. Sea! Holly is another plant which would do well there. Gosport Council has planted some Thrift in the flower bed on the roundabout near Browndown. These will be pulled up at the end of the summer ready for bulb planting. The removed plants will go for composting but as these are perennials why can't Lee have then for planting along the beach/grass slopes. I could do some art 'mock ups' of what I imagine my ideas could look like, if you wish.

Vision4Lee Reply 10 July 2007

Thank you for your comments on the Seafront "Garden". Your offer to produce some "mock ups" would be of great benefit and I am passing your thoughts and ideas onto Alan Gibson of GBC who would I am sure be very interested in seeing and discussing them with you.

I have copied Lee Councilors East and West for information.

Subject: help with renting room

10 July 2007

Message:
do you know of any establishment who will rent us a room cheaply for a mum and toddler group (pre school) 0-5

Vision4Lee Reply 10 July 2007

We thought that a telephone call would be more beneficial to discuss your question and then provide you with a list of possible options to follow up on.

Possible venues to contact are: Lee Scout Hut in Holly Bank. The Catholic Church in South Place, St John Ambulance building on the corner of Gosport Road and Anglesey Road just before Wooton Road and the old Cottage Garden Shop in the High Street.(Owner runs the Slim and Trim Shop just down the road).

The new MOD Houses on the Daedalus site is another potential source as it is understood that 50% remains empty at present - perhaps the owners could be contacted to see if one of the house's could be used for the mother and toddler facility.

The GBC Surestart Scheme is also an option for the future, as suggested you should contact Alison Roast who is a V4L SG Member and Vice Chair of Lee Residents.

Another source for the future would be to contact the SEEDA Daedalus Team daedalus-project@seeda.co.uk to see if you can attend the Leisure, Tourism and Community Facilities Workshop on the 24 July, there is also a Daedalus drop-In event on the 30 July 2007 from 1p.m.- 8 p.m. in the Lee-on-the-Solent Methodist Hall on Lee-on-the-Solent High Street, contact details are as follows:

Subject: Lee Flying Association

19 July 2007

Message:

Hello I would like to introduce myself to you I am the chairman of the newly formed Lee Flying Association at the lee on Solent airfield, we will be holding our IGM this Sunday at 7 30pm at the Stubbington community Centre.
Our aims are very similar to yours.
At the moment the airfield is being badly run and being allowed to deteriorate. If we leave the authorities to their own devices it will then become another building site, and I don't think we really need another few thousand houses to we. It is our intention to take over the running of the airfield to improve the safety and vastly improve the facilities, To make it into a general aviation airfield to be proud of.
For more information please do not hesitate to contact me. and I suggest you go to our website which is www.eghf.co.uk

Yours sincerely
Malcolm Barton

Vision4Lee Reply 23 July 2007

Thank you for your email Malcolm.

As the Maritime Coast Guard Agency own the Airfield I believe that your questions and concerns should be addressed by them. MGCA website is www.mcga.gov.uk
The remainder of the Daedalus site is owned by SEEDA who's website is www.daedalus-seeda.co.uk
Hope that this information helps you with your concerns.

Subject: daedalus questionnaire and drop in event

20 July 2007

Message:

i note that the drop in event will not discuss housing do you think this is due to the overwhelming rejection of same in the questionnaires? or are they going to build a mini town anyway?
a worried mike evans

Vision4Lee Reply 25 July 2007

Thank you Mike for your comments. I am sure that you will agree the answer to your question can only be answered by SEEDA and not Vision4Lee. It is recommended that you contact the SEEDA Daedalus Group via www.daedalus-seeda.co.uk

The SEEDA Daedalus Drop In Event is designed to enable residents and visitors to discuss there ideas and concerns.

The V4L Roadshows and Public Consultations that took place during April - June in 2006 identified "No More Flats or Houses" this has been endorsed by the SEEDA Questionnaire Results, and will I am sure be reflected in the SEEDA Daedalus Master Plan hence the need not to have it as a key topic on the Drop In Agenda, nevertheless you could visit the Drop In Day and raise your concerns to the SEEDA Team.

Ray Harding
