Preliminary Vision4Lee Roadshow Findings

This is what you suggested to improve Lee on the Solent in June 2006.

Where the questionnaires came from:

  • Pub Quiz: 94 questionnaires
  • Business Survey: 63 questionnaires
  • Roadshow: 339 questionnaires

Here are your suggestions:

  • No more housing/changing properties into flats/retirement housing
  • More variety of shops, no estate agents or charity shops (huge support)
  • Pedestrianise the High Street
  • Elegant seafront walk
  • Save Haslar
  • Lee needs a hotel!!
  • Protect Hovercraft museum
  • Open airfield day e.g. car track, like Thorney Island
  • Cinema in Lee
  • Bring back the gliders (25 ticks!!)
  • Huge concerns over future of Daedalus
  • Daedalus suggestions (sports facilities/no more housing/ keep airfield as an airfield/recreation centre)
  • More dog bins
  • Social facilities for teens
  • Swimming pool/good leisure facility
  • Concerns over traffic and congestion
  • Annual community event e.g. carnival
  • Access for wheelchairs and buggies on pavements
  • Lighting in High Street needs improving
  • Litter increase and lack of visible police presence
  • Harbour/marina with water bus
  • Safe cycle path along seafront
  • More evening entertainment for over 30s group
  • One hour free parking to encourage people to shop locally
  • No more big estates
  • Litter picking on beach, removal of weeds
  • Parts of Lee are ‘rat runs’ for cars and this needs to be addressed
  • More pre-school places and school places
  • Multi-user games area (maybe by skate park?)
  • Trees in High Street
  • Hovercraft/ferry terminal to Isle of Wight
  • Improve public transport
  • No building on Browndown
  • Crazy golf somewhere on the seafront
  • Comprehensive school
  • A fishmongers
  • Nowhere to buy clothes for gents or ladies, have to go outside Lee
  • Fast ferry from Lee
  • Need open spaces/play areas
  • Swordfish pub should have remained. Too many old buildings being knocked down. Build in character!!
